Replacement Surgery for the Knee The knee is one of the joints in the body most susceptible to injury. One of the greatest threats to this most important joint is osteoarthritis, a disease that severely compromises the knees functionality. Replacement surgery is usually conducted. During surgery, an implant is fitted on the moving tissues to act in a similar manner as the natural ones. The operation involves removal of worn out bone tissue usually found at the tibia and femurs ends. At times problems may arise, following surgery. In extreme cases, a patient may file a lawsuit following negligent action from a knee specialist. The implant may not be compatible with a patients tissue thereby leading to complications. A surgical implant can either be made from plastic or it may be made from titanium. In a replacement operation, the ends of tibia and femur bones are smoothed.
